ABOUT
Double-glazed glass, also known as double-glazing or insulated glass, is a type of window or door glass that consists of two panes of glass separated by a layer of air or inert gas, typically argon or krypton. The two glass panes are sealed together, creating a sealed unit.
TYPES
Low-E (Low Emissivity) Glass: Low-E coatings are applied to the glass to minimize heat transfer, offering better insulation. They also reduce UV radiation, protecting interiors from fading.
Tinted Glass: Tinted double glazing can enhance privacy and reduce glare from direct sunlight.
Laminated Glass: Some double-glazed units use laminated glass for added safety. This type of glass remains intact when shattered.
HOW IT WORKS
Double glazing works by creating a thermal barrier between the interior and exterior of a building. The gap between the two glass panes is a key insulating feature. This space can vary in width but is typically around 12mm to 20mm. It is filled with dry air or inert gas, which is a poor conductor of heat, reducing the transfer of heat or cold between the inside and outside.
BENEFITS
Improved Energy Efficiency: Double glazing is highly effective at insulating against heat loss during winter and heat gain during summer. It can help reduce heating and cooling costs.
Enhanced Sound Insulation: The air gap between the glass panes also provides acoustic insulation, reducing noise from the outside.
Condensation Reduction: Double glazing reduces the likelihood of condensation forming on the interior surface of the glass, preventing moisture-related issues.
Increased Security: Double glazing can provide added security, as it is more difficult to break through than single glazing.
MAINTENANCE
Double glazed windows require minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning with a mild glass cleaner and checking for any sealant or frame issues is generally sufficient. We also offer environmentally friendly options, such as using recycled materials or producing low-emission, energy-efficient glass.
